Hope Development Organization

Greetings from Hope Development Organization Faisalabad!

Hope Development Organization is a National NGO, struggling for the Women rights in Pakistan, it
is registered under the societies registration Act XX1 1860, Joint Stock Companies. HDO was
founded in the year of 1997 by a Feminist group of women and Women equal rights believers in
the result of horrible crimes against women in Pakistan like Purdah or Child Marriage (Vani) ,
Honor killings, Domestic violence, Acid throwing, Bride burning,  Watta satta , Sati, Dowry death,
Murder of pregnant women, Human trafficking, Sexual slavery, Forced prostitution, Sexual violence,
Rape, Violence against prostitutes, Female genital cutting, No doubt Pakistani government take
quick actions on complains and had made few laws to protect women rights, but still there are
more then 84 % cases and stories are invisible because of the fear in women of this society.
Although women play an active role in Pakistan's economy, their contribution has been grossly
under reported in some censuses and surveys.  The 1991-92 Labor Force Survey revealed that
only about 16% of women aged 10 years and over were in the labor force.  The World Bank's
reports of 1997 stated that women constituted only 28% of the country's labor force. According to
the 1999 report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, only two percent of Pakistani
women participate in the formal sector of employment.  However, the 1980 agricultural census
stated that the women's participation rate in agriculture was 73%. The 1990-1991 Pakistan
Integrated Household Survey indicated that the female labor force participation rate was 45% in
rural areas and 17% the urban areas.  Pakistani women play a major role in agricultural
production, livestock raising and cottage industries.
Land and property rights: Around 90% of the Pakistani households are headed by men and most
female-headed households belong to the poor strata of the society.  Women lack ownership of
productive resources. Despite women's legal rights to own and inherit property from their families,
there are very few women who have access and control over these resources.
HDO is working with the depressed, opposed marginalized communities specially women for
their empowerment, social economic development, and transformation and uplifting them towards
sustainable development.
It works to promote Women Skill Development Program, Inter-Faith Harmony and Peace Building
with youth, Education, Health and Emergencies and Relief.
We believe in a participatory approach on different proposals, identified by the communities that
are helpful for their development, improvement and rehabilitation.
HDO seeks input from the people it serves.  The goal is to analyze a situation by discussion on
social, cultural, economic, Women rights, religious and political issues through group meetings
and case studies, try to sort-out problems and arrive at solutions with community input.  No
program remains fixed for very long, but changes with follow-up evaluations.  HDO believes that
through International participation, services are more effective and sustainable.  It is an evolving
process.

Our vision:Transform deprived lives through sustainable development, with emphases on physical, social
